Thank you!
I hold regular hours in my yurt-studio with sketch pad and drawing tablet and a focus on process. A design brief sends me brainstorming with pen and paper thinking expansively about the twists and turns of the story. I narrow and then elaborate on a handful of ideas. Throughout, I listen carefully to clients and, my own intuition and plan time where developing work is presented for feedback.
I feel that good graphic design is about connecting people and ideas through visual messages made up of words and images. The connection starts with the message. To understand the message to the best of my ability, I start with many questions and much research. Then, using the tools of design—rhythm, color, line, placement, contrast, and all the other wonderful ones— I deliver the message to the best of my ability and if I’ve done my job, the message is understood by the audience.
I am a passionate person. Fundamentally, I am upbeat and hopeful, believing that small details can make a difference in life. So too in design where the small tweaks on, say, the color palette, or the expression of a drawn character, or the placement in a layout can make a difference in how a visual design is perceived. If my designs allows the viewer to stop, pause, and reflect on the message, then, I have done my job.
I would be most at home as a 2D designer focused on brand identity, logo design, print and digital layout, presentation design, or illustrations with a side hustle in copywriting, though I am open to any job where my combination of skills and world view would be a fit.
